Oddly, I find that a lot of people seem to take long post responses as an easy subject of mockery. "Oh my God, shut up" is easier to say than...refute a well formulated argument, I suppose.
It's weird that people do this though, I think. Is it really so unusual for well considered responses to be lengthy? Particularly in the case of nuanced issues, trying to be as brief as possible is basically asking for a calamitous amount of misinformation via exclusion or just rather poorly explained logic. You need the space to formulate thoughts and ideas.
