Superfluous analysis of grand strategy preferences by country, but filtered through the perspective of a drunk white trans woman at 3am

@wintgenstein I feel like we could potentially read some stuff into this. Europa Universalis, a game about European colonialism and white supremacy, is popular in Europe. HoI is popular in almost exclusively the former Soviet Union - nostalgia for glory days, perhaps? Stellaris is popular in the US, Canada, Britain, Germany, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand... Richest countries, most optimistic for the future, most faith in technology, perhaps?

That Crusader Kings is so popular in Latin America makes some sense for religious reasons, perhaps? India and Indonesia, I have no idea....

@ALWETP yeah that's about my read on it. i feel like stellaris being popular in the anglosphere is uh.... technofetishist utopianism? i'll bet a lot of players just want to make the star trek federation in their games

re: Superfluous analysis of grand strategy preferences by country, but filtered through the perspective of a drunk white trans woman at 3am

@wintgenstein I mean, I know I always make Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism, but with Space Ferrets, so... Yeah, sounds about right. But also, Stellaris communities have a meme about all being technofascists. The second highest percentage of players played xenophobic militarists, right after xenophile militarists, so.... Might also be some Imperium of Man bullshit?

@ALWETP whoa what the fuck

re: Superfluous analysis of grand strategy preferences by country, but filtered through the perspective of a drunk white trans woman at 3am

@ALWETP yeah i dread having to go to the paradox games subreddits or god forbid paradox plaza to figure stuff out about the games because the players are...yeesh

re: Superfluous analysis of grand strategy preferences by country, but filtered through the perspective of a drunk white trans woman at 3am

@wintgenstein Yeah, there's a shitton of "Suffer not the Xeno to live" shit, and there's a lot of jokes along the lines of "I tried to be a xenophile, but then I got to midgame and the performance started to dip, so I did a genocide."

re: Superfluous analysis of grand strategy preferences by country, but filtered through the perspective of a drunk white trans woman at 3am

@ALWETP yeahhhh a lot of gamers are like "crusader kings 2 is impossible to win on unless you take all the gold from jewish people and deport them" like its basically a meme and even woke gamers love to recommend you do it in game, its SO fucked up!

re: Superfluous analysis of grand strategy preferences by country, but filtered through the perspective of a drunk white trans woman at 3am

@wintgenstein Yeah, Paradox games in general attract fash more than a military parade. All the Crusader Kings memes that became straight up neo-nazi memes like "Deus Vult" and "Kebab"... All the Wehraboos flocking to the HoI games so they can jerk off to an alternate WWII where the Nazis won...

re: Superfluous analysis of grand strategy preferences by country, but filtered through the perspective of a drunk white trans woman at 3am

@ALWETP yeahhhh kaiserreich is Not Good lol

re: Superfluous analysis of grand strategy preferences by country, but filtered through the perspective of a drunk white trans woman at 3am

@ALWETP on a related note: i got the achievement for having a leader who isn't your main population and like.... less than 5% of players have it that its a rare glowing background achieve. yeesh

re: Superfluous analysis of grand strategy preferences by country, but filtered through the perspective of a drunk white trans woman at 3am

@wintgenstein Wait, less than 5%, seriously? It's hard not to get unless you're trying not to have leaders of other races, which I'm pretty sure you can only do if you're xenophobic... The fuck?

re: Superfluous analysis of grand strategy preferences by country, but filtered through the perspective of a drunk white trans woman at 3am

@ALWETP oh sorry the glowing border is for less than 10% apparetly, its 7.something% which is STILL wild. its REALLY easy to get! maybe its the whole thing where like the achievement for starting a steam game is usually like 60%?

re: Superfluous analysis of grand strategy preferences by country, but filtered through the perspective of a drunk white trans woman at 3am

@wintgenstein Oh, maybe, yeah. Because otherwise, that implies that less than 10% of people have EVER played a non-xenophobic empire past the early game.
