what's the cheapest way to transport my person across an ocean?

I think the best way would probably be to smuggle myself aboard a cargo ship

Show thread

0$ that ticket is, however then I'd still need to bring food and water

Show thread

apparently it's 80-140$ a day to travel by cargo ship, if doing so via legitimate means. it is in fact, more expensive than traveling by air.

Show thread

this has thoroughly ruined my dreams. however the smuggling option still is open to me.

come on, when is that transatlantic train tunnel gonna be built

· · Web · 3 · 1 · 8

@starwall that shit would take so long. you know how long the fucking channel tunnel took??? and you can literally SEE France on a clear day from the English coast

@CornishRepublicanArmy I mean look, America has plenty of money and we have plenty of people who need the work

@CornishRepublicanArmy there's over 2 million unemployed people in my state alone, we have the manpower

@witchfynder_finder @CornishRepublicanArmy hell yeah, let's do it. the only real trouble will be figuring out what to do about crossing the volcanic mid-Atlantic rift zone

@starwall @witchfynder_finder suspend the tunnel above the sea bed would be my guess, like drill up and then go back down again

@witchfynder_finder @starwall fuck a glass tunnel under the sea for minecarts would be kinda fuckin lit, I should make that in my next world

@starwall @witchfynder_finder yeah, it'd just be the part most prone to leaking and you'd need to factor in the extreme water pressure on the tube. not impossible, I mean we drill oil from just as deep if not deeper. problem would be maintenance I imagine

@CornishRepublicanArmy @witchfynder_finder look it's not even that bad, and the areas of ocean we'd be drilling under are relatively shallow as well

@starwall @witchfynder_finder ok this makes way more sense, I was thinking like flat Cornwall to Saint Lawrence-ish. thing is you're doin a lot of up and down before you reach civilisation on both the European and NA ends of it. like rolling on through Baffin island and Labrador is gonna take you ages before you even reach Quebec city

@CornishRepublicanArmy @witchfynder_finder someone call one of executives in the Idea Industry, I want 10,000$ to show them a powerpoint presentation for a half hour

@starwall @CornishRepublicanArmy Who do I call if I have theories? I've contacted universities but they ignored me.

@starwall @witchfynder_finder pfff, you just write a paper about it yourself. like that crazy italian guy who wanted to dam the Mediterranean to create arriable land for colonisation

@witchfynder_finder @starwall it's absolutely fucking GALAXY brained. Atlantropa, nobody took it seriously but my dude was all about this shit

@CornishRepublicanArmy @witchfynder_finder the plan would stop sea level rise within the north sea region, presumably. though, it would increase sea level rise everywhere else slightly since water wouldn't be able to be displaced into that whole fucking region

@starwall @CornishRepublicanArmy @witchfynder_finder OK yah I was right. I knew it was either Wolfenstein or Man in the High Castle.

@radicalrobit @witchfynder_finder @starwall most 'what if the axis won?' alt histories tend to include it. but really it was nothing that was genuinely considered for absolutely how colossal a project it is

@CornishRepublicanArmy @radicalrobit @witchfynder_finder plus the remaining Mediterranean sea would be made far saltier and likely nearly all of its aquatic life would die off from the ensuing environmental disaster

@witchfynder_finder @CornishRepublicanArmy oh you don't know about the nazi plan to partially drain the Mediterranean sea in order to get more LAND?

@starwall @witchfynder_finder na it was floated to the nazis but they just kinda did nothing with it, it was this Italian dude's big idea

@CornishRepublicanArmy @witchfynder_finder the land would have been shitty and not arable anyways, like the dust bowl that used to be the Aral Sea.

@starwall @witchfynder_finder Aral sea is in the middle of a desert as is, where this newer land would have many rivers and mountains to the north bringing rainfall ect

@starwall @CornishRepublicanArmy @witchfynder_finder I think the main flaw here is that even if the entire project was wildly successful you'd still end up in Britain

@RedFuture @starwall @witchfynder_finder latest indy ref 2 polls are at 58 yes 42 no, so 'Britain' won't exist by the time this even gets off the ground in the planning stage

@CornishRepublicanArmy @starwall @witchfynder_finder ok so People's Revolutionary People's Republic of Scotland People might be cool

@RedFuture @starwall @witchfynder_finder yes, but no actually as it's George Galloway who takes the presidency and it becomes a racist degenerated workers state

@starwall @RedFuture @witchfynder_finder and they will give us 3b Scottish pounds in funding, and an army of 'reformed labourers' which is actually just Scottish tories so you know 🤷. it's once we hit Greenland we're gonna have an issue

@starwall Can we go from, like, Portugal to the Azores to Newfoundland?
