If you have some money leftover, please consider donating on Liberapay to cover the server cost. Right now the instance costs around 23 € per month.

We have published most of the configuration for our instance in the form of an Ansible playbook. If you are familiar with server administration, you can have a look at it, make a pull request or fork it to run your own instance.

If you have any technical problems with peertube.social, you should open an issue in this repo.

The PeerTube rcV3 is out. The V3 will be released in Jan 2021.
It will bring improvements and a new feature: livestreaming.
We would like to hear from you about possibly enabling this on
Is Peertube Livestreaming a feature you have been waiting for ? Are you planning on streaming yourself ?

Please only vote in the poll if you have an account on peertube.social !
Reminder: this is not the official PeerTube dev account. That's over at @peertube

YouTube was down about three hours ago but PeerTube is up and running thanks to hundreds of instances. Remember is just one instance in the network!
For a more detailed look at all the instance (including down time), you can check out Framasoft's public index: instances.joinpeertube.org/ins
The fediverse is the future. 🎉

Hello there!
Have you heard about SepiaSearch.org ?
It's the cool new project from Framasoft to help search for videos on , results come from their instance index.
Learn more here: framablog.org/2020/09/22/sepia

is now part of the index. Give it a go, search for some of your videos, it works! And then, go see if you can't find new stuff you'd like. 😃

How about searching for videos about 'free software' or 'SuperTuxKart', you might be surprised by what you find.

For a week or so there appears to be more spam bots on PeerTube leaving comments.
Thank you to everybody that reports spam and undesirable comments. Public signups are closed on PeerTube·Social so they are mostly coming from other instances. I remind that reports do not only go to your instance admins but the original instance too.
There are more comments than videos, and they are harden to find to check them so reporting them really helps us to get rid of them.

how2 avoid youtube

1. Youtube provides RSS feeds. They're very useful.
They are in the form of https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=<channel ID>

2. mpv - and probably others - can open Youtube URLs directly.

3. On Android, there's a piece of software called NewPipe that parses YouTube webpages - and RSS feeds - to provide a more pleasant interface.
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.schabi.newpipe/

3. There's a Firefox addon that redirects Youtube pages to Invidious automatically.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hooktube-redirect/

4. If you combine these, you can avoid ever opening the site. I have a script[1] that decides whether to open mpv or a web browser when I click an entry in QuiteRSS for stuff I care about.

5. You can feed youtube-dl a channel or playlist URL and it will download the lot.

Bonus: not using the website will probably result in you wasting less time as you're not subject to their psychological warfare.

GreenFediverse is a directory of Fediverse instances with information on how environmentally friendly they are. You can follow the project here:

@greenfediverse

You can see the directory at greenfediverse.frama.io/green-

The project uses data from the Green Web Foundation, and is mainly based on whether the instance's hosting provider uses renewable energy.

We are currently doing maintenance on our test server, and it will be unavailable.

PeerTube.social is still up and running and will not be effected by this maintenence.

Hello #peertubesocial people. I'm trying to find the best videos hosted on the peertube.social instance. Anybody got any suggestions ?

#peertube

We have a test instance running at test.peertube.social/ . Would any of you be interested to get an account and play with moderation features or whatever? Just reply here.

Would any of you be interested in helping us with moderation on peertube.social?

The poll is over and even though there were only 21 votes, the result is pretty clear. So view counters are disabled again on the overview pages (you can still see the view count by opening the video page).

For a while now we had view numbers hidden on the overview pages, in a kind of experiment to encourage viewers that they dont rely on this metric alone when looking for videos. I changed it back now so that view counters are shown again. Which do you prefer?
