I didnt *need* to unpack these in our hotel, but it just makes me feel more at "home" you know?

Imagine, its xmas 2005, someone in your family gifts you a big-headed vinyl figurine of Iron Man, because you said in passing that you liked the movie. It's a cute toy! You put it on your mantle and thank them

Valentines day 2006 shows up, your partner remembers how much you enjoyed your xmas gift and gets you another to go along with it. You appreciate it, but dont love it, but you maybe try and oversell how much it means to you.

Friends come over throughout the year and they notice your budding collection and make're the funko pop guy now

Your birthday,
Your anniversary
Every friend
Every relative
Every holiday

You know what's in every gift, those transparent white cubes
Those beady little eyes staring back at you

Are you anything other than an amalgamation of the pop culture you consume? Are you anything at all? You do your best, but you know you're not special. Does that mean you dont deserve to be happy? This is all you are distilled down to your loved ones

This is no joke probably the longest piece of fiction I've ever written.

@laser every time I read it I have a different emotional reaction which is good I think

@laser the most tragic aspect of this story is that the Iron Man movie would not get out until 2008

My brother has this exact TV cabinet.

Also, I read the colourised Akira when it came out and as a result my family have boxed me as "likes manga" which means I get manga every Christmas and birthday. Always Yu-Gi-Oh or Full Metal Alchemist.

i'm on the phone with the Hugo Award people to see about getting this in the running for this year.

they seem skeptical that it actually constitutes science fiction, per se, but they're intrigued that your name is Laser so your foot is in the door!

hey this is the wholeass wrong thread but while i'm thinking of it, there's a Song Exploder episode about that track The Future Is Here with Corin and Carrie and it's an interesting window into how the album as a whole was written.

@laser this is how my old babysitter ended up with a house full of teapots, teapot knickknacks, teapot calendars, and teapot decor.

@laser this is me, except that one time I wore a pineapple necklace, and my mum is BUT YOU LIKE PINEAPPLES

@ItsJenNotGabby @laser my most favourite gifts are where she inexplicably decided I was into unicorns and fairies for my last birthday, and bought me this decoupage fairy door and a weird glitter jar with a tealight in it. And some woman in the queue was like to her "ah my daughter loves fairies too, how old is yours? Mine is 9" and that STILL didn't tip her off lmao

@ItsJenNotGabby @laser I actually couldn't hold back my laughter when I opened it and she said sadly "you're gonna make fun of me online aren't you?" And I couldn't say no lmao

@laser I've never wished for an earthquake more in my life

This picture triggers my fight or flight response, and buddy, I'm out.

@Quixote171 @laser you can’t fight funko pops they are immune to physical damage so flight is the only option.
