The straight pride flag transcends all satire, it might be the greatest self-own in a generation
It’s so deliberately, meticulously, mediocre
“Sooo, you think heteronormativity is a prison?”
“No, why do you ask?”
“I AM PROUD OF BEING STRAIGHT”
Booms a monotone voice
“NOT REALLY EXCITED...JUST REASONABLY PROUD”
If I had made this flag as a satire, people would say I was being mean to straight people
That’s how bad it is, and why I can’t stop laughing
@RobinHood the word "prison" comes to mind lol
@RobinHood First time I saw it, I damn near spewed my drink all over my phone. Like only a straight person could design that and be like, "yeah, this looks awesome and totally encapsulates the greatness of being cishet"
@RobinHood their announcement said that there would be floats
so are the floats... just cars
I think you're right on.
I do think thought that anti-LGBTQ sentiment isn't just "they should stay hidden". There is a dominator mentality against queer people that ties into gender-role inequality. Most homophobia is "ew, gay", but that subset of real oppression is still around. It's still about keeping queer people in their place, it's just that to bigots that place is "nonexistent". And we get economically and medically shafted compared to straights, too.
Not really disagreeing, just musing about it being more than the closet.
i appreciate the phrase "white supremacist capitalist patriarchy" because none of these things are really operating independent of one another
and yeah these people would rather lgbtq+ people *not exist* but it's less acceptable to just say that out loud anymore, though of course, some still do
Like, I'm not interested in arguing with Nazis or trying to fix fascism. I'm interested in fixing the racism and misogyny and internalized queerphobia inside me, so that I can not fuck up (and maybe contribute to!) a culture that seduces people away from negative movements.
@RobinHood My family finds this flag ominous.
this looks like the flag from a 1984 remake that's about straight people taking over the government
@RobinHood Nobody fucking needs this, especially straight people.
I don't get it
Wow... So much to unpack here...
- The black-and-white to indicate there's no gray areas in sexuality (i.e. bi erasure)
- The male and female gender symbols interlocking to further the bi erasure as well as gay erasure in general
- The gender symbols laying missionary style because heaven forbid we have sex in a way they don't approve of
Did I miss anything?
Wait, shit! Holy fuck! They messed up the angle of the male symbol! The way the two are angled, it's literally a guy sitting or standing on top of a woman as she lays down!
Also, I just wanna add that as someone else mentioned, the fact that this resembles prison stripes is extremely fitting for the type of people that would support this flag. i.e. people who support the criminalization of others' existence and should as a result be arrested and put in prison (stripes included) for crimes against humanity.
@RobinHood I thought this was satire...
@RobinHood I hope the pirates are lawyering up. [sigh]
Those who never even try to move will never notice their chains
@RobinHood "Let me ask the ol' ball and chain, ha ha ha"
@RobinHood weren't black and white stripes meant to be a signifier of Delinquency
@RobinHood and it's a terrible flag too.
Prison stripes and chains.
I mean, I love black and white. But this fails every design point, except maybe the "being rectangular" bit!
@RobinHood it's good, it suggests a prison, it's actually really woke.
Not straight enough.
Starch. That. Flag.
@Guinevere anything that flaps in the wind is gay, that’s the rules
Birbs are gay?
@Guinevere oh totes!
Straight people make the vast majority of gay babies...
So that makes them sort of useful....
@RobinHood They could have used vanilla color? 😂
@RobinHood really dot jpg
@RobinHood Wait is this legit?
A cool and chill place for cool and chill people.
