I hope the primary vibe I give off is "always wants to talk about Jeopardy, is literally always available to discuss Jeopardy"
@Pixley I have a friend who ran a tumblr called "Look At This Fucking Jeopardy Contestant"
@MordecaiPinhas I was cute as hell when I was on, so
@Pixley Oh heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey that's two contestants I know now.
@Pixley I hope you didn't look at the internet commentary on you when you were on. My other friend did, and there were some, let's call them indecent proposals.
@MordecaiPinhas it was before Twitter was a huge thing, and I've never been on Facebook or Reddit or anything, so I definitely did not!
@Pixley I am registered for the test, karen
@alex HELL YEAH
@Pixley You do seem to be that way
@Gargron excellent, thank you
@Pixley how do i study for the test i only know Useless trivia
@yiffpolice I got like Opera for Dummies and skimmed some Wikipedia articles about the Civil War and looked at some maps, but it is Mostly Useless Trivia
@Pixley hi karen, my jeopardy question is: why are so many jeopardy contestants very bad at the math/wagering for DDs and FJ, when that is such a huge part of the game? people seem to massively undervalue it and make terrible errors all the time that cost them games. is it something you practiced before you were on?
also related: is 'working' the mechanics of the game e.g. by DD hunting generally frowned upon? it seems like it, but you give up tons of value by playing 'normally' 🤷♂️
@lennie people generally do not practice that at all, no, I think they think that it's like beneath them? Like, "I will win through the sheer force of my knowledge base, and I won't have to do math." I practiced a bit, I got some basics down, but also I am not great at doing math under pressure!
Regarding DD hunting, honestly, it's not as fun to watch for most people, and contestants are also usually fans of the show. I know my mom hates that, and I didn't want to make her mad!
@lennie Also re: DD-hunting, sometimes there are categories with a finite number of responses, like what the MVP in each sports league is called, and it's better to get the easy ones out of the way before going into the hard ones, which are much more likely to be the DD, blind.
@Pixley ooh that's a good point i can see it making sense in that scenario. and keeping mum happy is always a good idea! but yea i always find it so strange that people would put so much time into learning all the flags of the world and stuff but not the basic strategy of how to maximize every edge in the game! (like the current jerky champ, i used to gamble for a living, so i am programmed to think in this way 😬 )
@lennie did you see any of the big All-Star Tournament they did recently? They sat in on teams while they talked out their wagering, and it was pretty interesting.
@Pixley i didn't but this sounds amazing thanks! i am digging around for torrents right now ☺️
A cool and chill place for cool and chill people.
