most i ever got paid was at the hotel ($55k) but that job was hell. before that the most i’ve made is $14.50/hr and because i was a manager i couldn’t join the union. so my cooks made more money than me because they had a union. starting wage for a cook was 15/hr some made up to like 21/hr i think?
my bosses loved to tell me that i made more money than the cooks because i had 10+hrs of OT every week and they only worked their scheduled shifts (almost always 36-40hrs a week). i worked 10-18 hour days up to 18 days in a row without a day off. shoulda been in the union tbh. the extra hundred fifty bucks or whatever was not fucking worth it. set schedule.rarely work over 40 hrs if ever. i got taken for a ride tbh
when i was at the hotel i worked a MIN of 50hrs/week, usually btwn 65-70, sometimes 100+. i would work til after midnight and have to be back at five to start breakfast. i slept in my office. the restaurant was open 18hrs, 365 days, even if i was off i was expected to field calls & come in at a moments notice. 45k sqft of banquet space & 12+hrs of mtgs every week. i was making decent money for the first time, wasn’t worth it. i was doing 2 jobs, never saw my family, it nearly killed my marriage.
holy shit that's so dehumanizing. I'm so sorry
@JohnBrownJr that sounds fucking awful, mate
