@FuchsiaShock

Has she done or tweeting something recently bad or have people just suddenly starting paying attention to the goblins?

jk rowling

@celesteh @FuchsiaShock She openly voiced her support for a transphobe who didn't get her contact at a think tank renewed for said transphobia.

jk rowling

@celesteh @FuchsiaShock As in, not just liked a TERF tweet in a "middle-aged" moment or whatever.

Actually tweeted her support for the hag and tossed in some TERF hashtags.

@Jo @FuchsiaShock

And that caused people to pay closer attention to anti-Semitic stereotypes in her work? This is an example of solidarity that would be cheering except the context has gotten too bleak for me.

jk rowling

@celesteh @FuchsiaShock I think it's giving people who were already aware an opportunity to remind everyone that Rowling has always been a shitty person and that this latest shitshow isn't just some one-off they can easily brush aside.

@Jo @celesteh @FuchsiaShock

I'm sickly fascinated by the phenomenon of destructive archetypes being perpetuated generation after generation with none of us ever able to take responsibility for breaking those chains. In fact, it's bizarre how the more rich and powerful the person is, the less responsible they become. :/

@Jo @celesteh @FuchsiaShock

Don't get me wrong: I do believe "decisions made outside of consciousness" is a real phenomenon, and all of us are subject to it. What I can't believe is how often someone influential is *led* *to* *an* *open* *door* and a way out, but they can't be bothered to even try and take it.

In Rowling's case, retcons have real power to do some good and show some appreciation for fans. (And I normally can't stand retcons.) You can work them into later episodes without taking older ones off the market. Your more hidebound followers can ignore them, too. If they want.

But oh dear either it's too much work or some marketer/handler advised against it so she folded. Feh.

@FuchsiaShock Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't goblins traditionally presented as greedy creatures? How is that related to anti-Semitism? Genuinely confused. 😓

@FuchsiaShock As in, I know anti-Semitists says Jews are greedy, I just don't get how the Harry Potter goblins are supposed to represent Jews.

@CanisMajoris Because art is created in a vacuum?
For your next trick will you be trying to argue queer coded Disney villains aren't homophobic because they're not explicitly referred to as gay and obviously anyone who says so must be the real homophobe for associating camp villainy with LGBT people?

@FuchsiaShock I will ignore the snark as it doesn't add anything constructive to this conversation. I asked a genuine question, how are HP goblins Jews?

@CanisMajoris I don't believe you're asking in good faith, given that the topic has been thoroughly explored in other places and you haven't bothered to look, instead have just repeatedly asked me.
