@DissidentKitty she literally put a gigantic prize out for anyone who could give her grs
she's an icon
@DissidentKitty One good Empress ahahah
wowie this wikipedia entry is fucked up
"Elagabalus delighted in being called ... mistress, wife, and queen... wore makeup and wigs, preferred to be called a lady and not a lord, and offered vast sums to any physician who could provide him with a vagina; for this reason, the emperor is seen by some writers as an early transgender figure"
seen by SOME writers?? ...SOME? and the whole page just continues to misgender left and right
@meena @melunaka @tcql Honestly? This doesn't surprise me in the least. The techbros at wikipedia requires mountains of evidence from sources they specified before they would acknowledge anything regarding trans people. It took me a shit ton of effort just to make them acknowledge that a tweet of Richard Morgan (author of Altered Carbon) being transphobic is transphobic as "original research" as opposed to vandalism or libel, and even then I am asked to cite a source they like before they'd consider it an "opinion". They can all rot in hell for all I care.
betcha there's at least one notable figure in ancient history who could be confirmed as trans but they passed well enough that nobody in their time knew so nobody wants to make a fuss about it now
@tcql @melunaka @DissidentKitty https://www.historyisgaypodcast.com/listen/2019/1/20/episode-20-the-real-housewife-of-rome this podcast is awesome in general and has an episode on Elagabalus.
@DissidentKitty yes that's horrible!
but wait a minute holy shit who was this amazing person!? XD
"Later historians suggest Elagabalus showed a disregard for Roman religious traditions and sexual taboos. He [sic] replaced the traditional head of the Roman pantheon, Jupiter, with the deity Elagabalus, of whom he [sic] had been high priest." ...
read the rest of that paragraph!
This is irrefutable proof that at some point, generation Z's invent time travel!
@DissidentKitty it's like Roman people were better than us or something.
@DissidentKitty let's go exhume her and ressurect her so she can do that then
The fact that I can't be sure that's a joke and not actually true is telling
@DissidentKitty oof why did I just look at that wikipedia talk page
@DissidentKitty Did you draw this btw?
@zigg No. I saw it in a discord server so I don't know the source.
@DissidentKitty It’s so good. My first queer history book started off with Elegabalus—I loved this. Thanks for sharing it!
@DissidentKitty she was also like... a teenager... and obviously times and values change a little bit but I can’t help but feel grossed out by treating her sex life/sexualization as goals
@alpine_thistle I don't think that's what the artist means here, but okay.
@DissidentKitty that name is really hard to type on a keyboard
@powersource It's hard to type anywhere, tbh. I just type it once and keep copying it.
@DissidentKitty purely boosting to piss off traditionalist transphobes
@DissidentKitty get her a pussy dammit! she really wanted one
@DissidentKitty That is important and interesting, but I'm sure there are a lot better historical trans role models than incompetent politicians
@DissidentKitty but is very cool, but also almost literally intersectional imperialism
@DissidentKitty i knew the Heliogabalus way to write it wich is pretty sunny :D
@DissidentKitty "Thirsty Gay Histo..." Lol😆
A cool and chill place for cool and chill people.
